We are talking about an unofficial update from an unknown source, who most likely doesn’t have as many PCs for testing as Microsoft has. The administrative template for the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint converters contained within the Compatibility Pack is available for download. Surprisingly, Microsoft had no comment on this "service pack," but common sense has to prevail here. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. Last May, it was revealed that through a registry hack, you could get those fixes for your XP distribution, although Microsoft back then advised people not to do it. Microsoft has not yet ended support for the embedded version of XP for ATMs and point of sale systems. They come from the point of sale/ATM version of XP that's still in use. However, SP4 also adds security fixes that aren't technically part of commercial Windows XP. That's a lot of fixes, so it would be tempting to use it. So it's mostly a rollup of monthly fixes issued by Microsoft since the third service pack, which came out in 2008. It can be applied to a live Windows XP system which has SP1, at the minimum, installed or it can be slipstreamed (integrated) in any Windows XP installation media. 3.1b is expected to be the final release. NET 1.x, 3.5 versions are automatically installed/updated in live installations Windows XP Service Pack 4 Unofficial is a cumulative update rollup for Windows XP (x86) English as well as security enhancements not addressed by Microsoft.
